The common daily habits that could be aging you

Dr. Lisa Kellet shares tips on how to reverse daily habits that age us.

          Frowning while concentrating or reading

Frown lines are the vertical lines between your eyebrows, more specifically these are referred to as glabellar lines. If you find yourself frowning a lot during the day, while concentrating, looking at your phone or reading a book or an email, you are giving yourself a deep wrinkle. Try to become aware of when you frown and do your best to break this habit. Try to keep the facial muscles as relaxed as possible.
How to reverse or stop it: Neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport can be injected into the area between the brows to affect the hyperactive muscles, thus reducing wrinkles.
          Cost: Starting at $400

          Not wearing sunglasses

The skin around the eyes is very thin, so aging happens more quickly in this area. As we squint in the sun we need sunglasses to act as physical barriers and protection. You should always seek shade for your eyes by wearing sunglasses with a UV coating. Look for durable sunglasses that offer 100 percent UVA and UVB protection.
How to reverse or stop it: Thermage treatment uses radiofrequency energy to alter damaged collagen and stimulate collagen remodeling to treat wrinkles and skin laxity. The effect is a tightening and lifting of the skin which can last up to 2 years. It works on all skin types and can be used on the eyes, face, neck and body.
          Cost: Starting at $2500

          Excessive alcohol

Especially in the summer, alcohol consumption can be significant. Drinking alcohol can produce free radicals that can damage the skin, causing wrinkles. Try to limit your alcohol intake (as much as possible) and remember to stay hydrated especially if you are drinking.
How to reverse or stop it: Often overlooked, vitamin C is one of the most important agents that can help keep skin looking its best. Products containing vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can help prevent and repair free radical damage.
          Cost: Starting at $100

          Crash diets

Poor nutrition and weight loss can cause volume loss in the face leading to more prominent folds.
How to reverse or stop it: Skin rejuvenation procedures using hyaluronic acid-based fillers are a growing trend in the cosmetic industry as they enable new collagen production and replace volume resulting in an overall improvement in wrinkles, and skin tone and texture.
          Cost: Starting at $600

          Drinking from a straw

Although lately many people may be drinking from a straw to avoid staining their teeth, there is another cosmetic hazard to this habit. Sipping through a straw causes contraction of muscles around the mouth causing wrinkles and lines.
How to reverse or stop it: Neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport can be injected into the skin around the mouth to affect the hyperactive muscles, thus reducing wrinkles.
          Cost: Starting at $400
